Guided Observation Workshop–Urban Stories with Ilanit Shamia
When was the last time you explored a new place? Current reality makes this challenging as one dramatic event follows another, flights are canceled, and we haven’t even mentioned prices yet. But what if we could re-discover the world in a familiar urban space? We invite you to join us for a trip around the city with new eyes!
Journalist and artist Ilanit Shamia, who is also behind the blog Urbanites and additional projects under the same name, exhibited in illustration week, will lead you through a guided workshop where you will discover new ways of looking at the city and familiar surroundings.
What’s in the Program?
Check-In: A review of artworks dealing with fresh perspectives of urban space—domestic and international tourism.
Take-Off: Ideas for observing the city creatively, with practical examples and methods for identifying and categorizing visual, human, and verbal urban-cultural phenomena.
Exploration: After a brief session that will include photography using your phone camera, we will head out on a tour where we will split up in a selected location. For an hour, you will observe, explore, ask questions, and collect visual and written material.
Wrap-Up: We will reconvene at the City Museum to swap impressions. Participants can also file their stories in the museum’s story archive—a keepsake for future generations.
