The Annual Exhibition 2025-2026 at the Tel Aviv-Yafo City Museum
Curator: Yael Messer
Relationships between people define, shape, and sometimes completely transform us. But what about relationships where not all parties are human? For example, what is our relationship with the city in which we live? And what actions—minor or major—shape the interactions between the city's residents and the place they call home?
The exhibition "At City Level" presents nineteen new works by artists based in Tel Aviv-Yafo, spread throughout the museum from the upper floors to the courtyard. This annual art exhibition is part of the museum's rotating program, inviting creators from the city to propose works developed specifically around a changing theme.
Just as "sea level" refers to the meeting line between land and sea, "City Level" examines the intersection between the city and its residents. What are the conditions of this encounter? What are the conditions of this gaze? What is required of us to see the city, and what is required of the city to return our gaze?
The works in the exhibition present a variety of materials, emotions, perspectives, and visual languages—from the poetic to the political, from the personal to the collective. Alongside them is a "Research Salon": a documentary space that combines case studies from civic and cultural activities in the city, serving as landmarks within a wide network of initiatives that have influenced and continue to influence the urban space.
