The Tel Aviv-Yafo City Museum is pleased to invite the public to A Community Makes Local History, a study workshop on collecting the city’s stories led by Yonatan Gur-Dick
The workshop is intended for a group of 15 participants, who, over five weekly meetings during September, will be able to broaden the historical knowledge of the city, learn how information is accumulated and shaped in the context of a historical study and follow the process in which historical narratives are formed through the combination of “major events” and personal experiences.
The workshop allows participants to turn their gaze to the near past by honing their skills in listening, seeing, gathering data, and analyzing the content displayed in the museum. They will also be encouraged to embark on their own story collecting activity in fields close to their hearts.
The workshop is open to anyone interested in history, curious about how the museum’s data is gathered, and wanting to familiarize themselves with new tools of historical research and learn more about the people who make up the city.
Participants must be 18 and over.
Yonatan Gur-Dick teaches history and civil studies at Ironi Alef High School and is pursuing his PhD at the School of Historical Studies at Tel Aviv University.
