Dorodango Workshop for Couples – Valentine’s Day Special
Led by Tasnim, an artist and botanical farmer, this workshop brings together love, earth, and nature, and invites participants to delve into the art of Dorodango — a traditional Japanese practice of polished mud, where simple natural material is transformed, through slow and patient handwork, into a smooth, stone-like, shiny sphere.
Originally, Dorodango was a Japanese children’s game involving shaping earth using only the hands, natural drying, and gradual polishing until a shine appears. It is a quiet and focused process that combines concentration, perseverance, creativity, and the deep satisfaction of turning mud into an art object. Through touch and contact with the earth, a connection is formed — to ourselves, to the material, and to the person beside us.
In this couples’ workshop, we invite you to pause for a moment, work together, and create a Dorodango sphere that holds memories, thoughts, and sensations from the moment of creation, as well as from your relationship as it exists now. According to tradition, the experiences and intentions that accompany the process become embedded within the sphere — turning it into an artwork that preserves memory.
