City on Troubled Waters | A Tour of the Annual Art Exhibition

This new tour explores how the city has kept changing over the years – from the permanent display to the annual art exhibition City on Troubled Waters, curated by Nir Harmat. Tel Aviv–Yafo grew out of ideas of a new beginning, yet it was built on ground that already held memories, lives, and traces. Ever since, the city has moved between building and erasure, vision and disillusionment, belonging and uprooting.
With the artworks as our guide, we’ll ask questions about the vision behind urban development; about periods when Yafo and Tel Aviv flourished, together and apart; and about forgetting, and the effort to remember – and to remind others of – what once was and is no more.
The city changes its face constantly, yet the faces that came before still look out from beneath the new ones, refusing to be erased. The tour is led as a conversation by the museum’s experienced guides, who come from a wide range of disciplines.
