Ayelet Carmi and Meirav Heiman | The Sirens of Bialik Square, 2026
Video and sound
The installation moves between the water’s surface at the Bialik Square fountain and the subterranean layers seething beneath it. Above the water, a group of women raises their voices in a hypnotic, ritualistic song. beneath it lies a dense world of currents, sediment, and hidden movement.
After all, not everything that appears stable is truly secure. Sometimes, the threat lurks precisely beneath the familiar surface.
The work explores the interdependence between the visible manifestation and the hidden infrastructure that enables it; it also draws upon the tension between beauty and what lies beneath it—the invisible systems dwelling beneath the elements of visual attraction, demanding effort and harboring danger.
