Installation
The viewers are invited to step into a world where memory, imagination and material are intertwined. The encounter with the images evokes a sense of familiarity that is difficult to pin down in time or in space, like stepping into a memory that might belong to someone else.
Goldstein’s visual language is based on collages and paper cutouts that incorporate imagery from old encyclopedias, fairy-tale books, and visual archives. These elements are combined with mechanical movements, produced by a conveyor belt, a turntable and projections, to create a space in constant motion.
The images woven into the installation transform the space into a kind of memorial hall; yet, alongside the inherent meanings that each image carries, they also become charged with new significance arising from their interplay. The boundary between reality and imagination is blurred through precise lighting that enlarges the shadows cast upon the walls.
The space becomes a kind of magic lantern, where the shifting and unfolding images invite reflection on childhood memories, fairy tales, early surrealist cinema, and Plato’s Cave.
The materials of the installation bring together urban images from different eras, assembling an imagined city where the past is one of the constituent elements, and whose foundations are layers of memory: a space where past, present and imagination coexist simultaneously.
